Chameleon

Hold me up against the stars
And watch me turn black
With pinpoints of light
Lay me down upon the earth
With the dust at my back
I will not shine so bright

Chameleon
You don't change your skin
Just your hue
To the world you're living in
Chameleon

Immerse me in my faith
And watch me stand tall
A beacon in the dark
But whisper in my ear
Make me question it all
Will I fall apart?

Chameleon
I don't change my skin
Just my hue
To the world I'm living in
Chameleon

Are these assests or masks
Facets or Cracks?
Is my one constant thing
My inconsistency?

Chameleon
You don't change your skin
Just your hue
To the world you're living in
And I'm just like you
Chameleon
I don't change my skin
Just my hue
To the world I'm living in
Chameleon

This song came out of a period of feeling 'tossed about by every wind and wave' in terms of how I was showing my faith (or not doing) depending on the situation I was in at the time. It's reflecting my frustration at myself in that, and wishing I could be more single-minded.
